Knowledge Check: Products You Can't Ship From the US
With MyUS, you can get millions of cool products from the US delivered to your door. However, there are some items we can’t legally ship internationally due to customs law, delivery company or airline restrictions, or bans specific to your country.
Some of these prohibited items might surprise you, so be sure to read the list below before you shop to avoid disappointment. Better safe than sorry!
Medications
MyUS does not export prescription medications or medical devices of any kind. We also can’t export any type of performance-enhancing drugs, such as prohormones, human growth hormones, or steroids. These drugs can be found in certain dietary supplements used for muscle-building, so be sure to check the ingredients before buying.
While MyUS can export most over-the-counter medications, we can’t ship any non-prescription medications or dietary supplements (including vitamins, minerals, and herbs) that aren’t FDA-approved or that don’t adhere to the FDA labeling guidelines.
Food
The US is home to some of the world’s most popular candies and snacks, but you might be surprised to find that some goodies can’t be exported. This includes perishable food like fruit, meat, and dairy; frozen food like ready-made dinners; and any food that isn’t FDA-approved or has been issued a Consumer Safety Advisory Warning.
We also can’t export any food from the US that isn’t labeled in English. For example, a snack imported from Mexico that has labels in Spanish can’t be shipped. When browsing websites that ship food, you may want to contact the seller to confirm that the label is in English and that the product is FDA-approved.
Fuel Lighters
MyUS does not ship any lighters containing fuel, since it’s a highly flammable substance. However, you may be able to ship an empty lighter that does not contain any fluid inside. Be sure to check your country's restrictions and make sure that the lighter is empty before purchasing.
Self-Propelled Vehicles
A self-propelled vehicle is defined as any vehicle powered by a motor or engine. MyUS does not ship any self-propelled vehicles, with common examples being cars, trucks, and motorcycles. However, you should note that this also means scooters, hoverboards, and e-bikes cannot be shipped.
Replicas
You might be surprised to learn that even if they’re marketed as toys, replica items such as toy guns or police badges are prohibited from export. Whether real or replica, no firearms, guns, or accessories can be shipped through MyUS. This also includes BB, pellet, airsoft, and paintball guns, parts, and projectiles.
MyUS will not export any product (real or replica) that appears to be related to police, government, or military activity, such as uniforms, IDs, and badges.
Leathers and Furs
Plenty of leather bags and boots are perfectly fine to ship. However, MyUS is prohibited from shipping certain types of animal products due to international export regulations. For example, the skin, fur, or leather of wolves, bears, elephants, rhinos, and certain deer and foxes cannot be exported. The skin or leather of snakes, alligators, crocodiles, stingrays, and other reptiles or amphibians is also banned from export.
Tobacco
While it might not surprise you that cigarettes can’t be shipped from the US, you should be aware that certain shipping partners prohibit all tobacco products from export. This means we can’t ship any kind of tobacco products (including cigarettes, chewing tobacco, e-cigarettes, vapes, and vaping accessories) for FedEx, DHL, UPS, and USPS carriers.
